Minecraft 2 “announced” by Notch

Minecraft is a cult video gamewhich joined the World Video Game Hall of Fame only 10 years after its release. Developed by Markus “Notch” Persson, the sandbox game with bricks now belongs to Microsoftwhich removed references to its creator after its tweets problematic. A film will soon be released in cinemas, but for its part, Notch has other projects.

On X/Twitterthe designer questioned players on whether he should develop a spiritual successor to Minecraft. The community obviously responded in the affirmative and Markus Persson added thathe thus made Minecraft 2 official :

I basically announced Minecraft 2.

I thought maybe people REALLY wanted me to make another game very similar to the first one, and I love working on games again.

I don’t really care which game I make first (or even if I make any more), but I know I’m making one, so I figured I’d absolutely be willing to give it an honest chance in the form of a spiritual successor to Minecraft and to start a poll about it.

My intentions are to be clear and honest about this, saying that spiritual successors are usually kind of… you know… rubbish. Tragic. I’m afraid my next game will be anyway and I’m trying to avoid it. So why not do the thing that people want and are willing to give me, one way or another, even MORE money for.

I intend to spend this money on good, but boy, have I learned that I often fail. To win is to fail until you succeed.

Oh, and I also place a high value on being a man of my word, so I intend to do so in a way that in no way seeks to sneakily encroach on the incredible work that the the Mojang team and on which Microsoft succeeds in the shittification of Microsoft.

And I respect them for that. It’s their job. And from what I understand, they let the studio do things their way, which seems very fair to me.

Voilà, Minecraft 2 is “announced” by Markus “Notch” Persson. Obviously, it will not bear that name, the license belongs to Microsoft et Mojang Studioswhich continue to bring it to life, as the creator reminds us. But the next video game Notch should come close, it remains to be seen whether the public will be ready to make room for it, Minecraft still being extremely popular today.

You can buy a bunch of franchise merchandise at Amazon, Cdiscount et Fnac.
