An association denounced the holding of hound hunts on its land, transformed into a nature reserve for animals. Activist for the association, Tom Arthus-Bertand, son of Yann Arthus-Bertand, calls for a ban on this practice.
The Vallée de la Millière association, near Rambouillet, in Yvelines, denounced the hunting parties that it observed on several occasions on its land. “That’s a bit of the problem with hunting with hounds, and what makes it intolerable. They have dogs, they can’t call them back.”denounced Tom Arthus-Bertrand, environmental activist, son of Yann Arthus-Bertrand and member of the association, reported BFM Île-de-FranceMonday January 6. “It’s a hunt from another time that should stop”he added.
The association has around thirty hectares transformed into nature reserves, where deer and does have taken refuge in recent years. These animals are frightened by the dogs accompanying the hunts during hunting parties.
A petition launched
For their part, the hunters affirmed that it was the responsibility of the association to fence its land to avoid these incidents. Tom Arthus-Bertrand affirmed that this was indeed the case. “Our plot is fenced, except that the fences are a little lower to let the animals pass through”he explained. However, he affirmed that nothing obliged him “to put fences everywhere”. The activist also denounced the attitude of hunters: “They don’t have to come to us”.
The activist launched, with the association, at the end of December, a petition for the establishment “an exit plan for the definitive cessation of hunting with hounds by 2030 in the Rambouillet forest” and the “strict respect for private property”as reported by Le Parisien. The document was sent to the prefect of Yvelines. It has already collected more than 29,000 signatures.
