Stars of David were sprayed on buildings in Vincennes (Val-de-Marne), near the Hyper Cacher which was attacked in 2015 after the attack on “Charlie Hebdo”. An investigation has been opened, the Créteil public prosecutor's office said on Monday.
Late Sunday afternoon, a resident discovered two Stars of David on the front door of a building and in its hall, and a third star was discovered at another address, specifies the public prosecutor. According to the same source, an investigation was opened for “damage or deterioration of the property of others committed because of race, ethnicity, nation or religion”.
The graffiti was sprayed not far from the Hyper Cacher, where four people of Jewish faith were killed on January 9, 2015.
“It inspires disgust in me, I find it absurd to tag things like that, especially during these times when we will soon commemorate the ten years of Charlie Hebdo and Hyper Cacher,” laments Jonathan Msika, 40 years old. “It’s despicable,” protests Florence Ménard, 60 years old and resident of one of the tagged buildings, who recalls being “very close to the Hyper Cacher and 50 m from the synagogue.”
In the neighboring town of Fontenay-sous-Bois, four people were arrested on Sunday evening for entering a building and drawing Stars of David with a red marker, according to a police source.
“The investigations must in particular determine whether the two cases are linked,” notes the Créteil public prosecutor’s office.
