a non-alcoholic cocktail to raise awareness about cancer

It's called The King's Star. A tasty blend of apple juice, pineapple juice, vanilla syrup and tonic. A non-alcoholic cocktail inspired by the one drunk by the famous pirate Edmond Dantès.

For the second edition of the January Challenge, Pierre-Henri Delmas, president of the Union of hotel trades and industries of Indre-et-, and Loïc Vaillant, president of the League against cancer 37, asked young apprentices from the Cité des formations in to imagine an original mocktail. The creative recipe of Paolo, apprentice bartender at Temps des Rois, was chosen.

“Each establishment which offers the cocktail in its establishment during the month of January will donate €1 to the League Against Cancer”specifies Pierre-Henri Delmas.

Last year, for the launch of the January Challenge, around forty bars and restaurants served the planter without alcohol. “We served around 900 cocktails. » A goal to exceed this year.

“In this month of Dry January, we want to raise awareness among the general public about the overconsumption of alcohol”insists Loïc Vaillant. Alcohol particularly increases the risk of developing certain cancers, “especially those of the breast”. Reasonable consumption is recommended by doctors. “The recommendation is one drink per day for women and two drinks for men; no more than five days a week. »

Catering professionals are participating in this awareness raising. “Every year, we see that our customers are asking us for more and more alcohol-free or sugar-free products”assures Pierre-Henri Delmas. “We have quite a few customers who are embarking on Dry Januarycontinues the manager of the Temps des Rois bar. Bars and restaurants are places of life and sharing, not just focused around alcohol. »

In the long term, the goal of the January Challenge is to avoid abuse. “If people reduce their alcohol consumption, that’s already a good point. »
