As usual REO looks back at 2024 and looks forward to the new year.
“The end of 2023 was very wet and due to flooding in much of West Flanders and northern France, producers had to work very hard to ensure a normal supply of fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately, the situation has not changed at the start of 2024, which has been the wettest year since records began in 1833. All this has led to a decrease in our supply, especially of almost all outdoor vegetables . »
In 2024, the board of directors, management committee and management team focused on developing a new strategy. “The cooperative’s communication with its producers has been strengthened by continuous and structured consultation on modernization and professionalization, taking into account the new needs and requirements of members and the market. Seven areas of development previously identified were explored in greater depth. Obstacles and opportunities were thus explored together. The seven multidisciplinary working groups presented proposals for each subject to the board of directors. »
Over the course of 2024, the Board of Directors held several special meetings to evaluate these proposals on their merits and compare them to the mission, core values and vision of the organization. “In each case, the board provided the necessary support and checked the various proposals against existing data. On the other hand, normal operations continue and several important investments have been approved and implemented. Much of the internal rolling stock (forklifts and pallet trucks) has been renewed, the access area has been refreshed and received new modern reception accommodation which will be repopulated from 2025. Some spaces made available to partners have also been modernized, with sustainability in mind. »
REO Veiling continued its professionalization in 2024 by starting to evolve the safety culture within the organization. “This led to the creation of REO SECOR and several measures have already been taken. This work has only just begun. But just like in 2023, the efforts combined with the expertise and great flexibility of our producers have resulted in a new record in terms of annual sales. »
Outlook for 2025
After the significant workload around the new strategy, mission and vision, the drafting of a strategic note which will be the orientation reference, began at the end of 2024.
This document aims to translate the decisions taken by the board of directors into clear objectives for the years to come. “These strategic missions contribute to the continuity of REO. This text serves as a guide in deploying the strategies of all departments, working together to achieve our long-term ambitions. »
“The specificity of a cooperative like ours is the interweaving of our objectives as a company with those of our individual members. We must not lose sight of this. 2025 will be dedicated to the continued development of a cooperation structure for this purpose. The communication structure between REO and its producers will be developed within product and product management groups. The new generation will also be structurally part of the management bodies. »
“The new organizational structure has created a framework within which the management team and staff can implement, monitor and adapt the strategy in a targeted and effective manner. This strategy will support REO’s mission, which is: ‘REO ensures a sustainable future for its members by aggregating and marketing their wide range of fresh fruits and vegetables. »
“REO remains committed to sustainable growth and the support of its cooperators. In 2025, efforts will continue towards more professionalization and innovation, while contributing to the marketing of healthy and sustainable products. »
