On the issue of road insecurity, collective awareness is the key. The cost of living is a complex problem that cannot be resolved in a few days. France, particularly Guadeloupe, will benefit from the emergence of more fraternity. The prefect answered our questions.
It is alongside the security forces that the prefect of the Guadeloupe region Xavier Lefort wanted to spend his New Year's Eve. He also gave an interview to Guadeloupe La 1erafrom the Saint-Claude fire station, in last night's television news (Tuesday December 31, 2024).
The opportunity to show support for these professionals and all the others mobilized during New Year's Eve : police officers and gendarmes (400 of them were mobilized for night checks), hospital staff, prison officers, Routes de Guadeloupe actors, etc.
Live, the local state representative also addressed some of the subjects that concern Guadeloupeans.
Xavier Lefort recalls the efforts made by State services and associations mobilized locally to reduce road accident figures : road checks and prevention actions. However, he admits that devices still need to be found for more convincing results. For him, it is about making all users aware of the risks linked to bad behavior.
Above all, it is, first of all, a collective awareness. I think that we will only be able to stem these road tragedies through mobilization and awareness among everyone (…).

The Road Safety Conference, in January, must give rise to an action plan, in collaboration with the Region and the Department.

For the prefect of Guadeloupe, the high cost of living turns out to be a “delicate and complex subject“. A social crisis cannot lead to a resolution, from his point of view. This problem is plural, linked to supply, to the isolation of the island territory which is ours, to our economic model and its specificities, or still to our modes of production, he explains.
What we are going to do this year is what we started doing in 2024 : that is to say work with political actors, economic actors, to take up this subject.

In the Republican motto, I believe a lot in the virtue of fraternity. The State is the general interest, above particular interests which often clash. The role of the State is to put the general interest above all else.
