The stories of confusion and administrative errors are now behind her. The town of , in the south of the metropolis of Lyon, officially changes its name this Wednesday, January 1, 2025 and becomes “Grigny-sur-Rhône”.

A request which had been made by the municipality to the State so as to no longer be confused with two homonymous municipalities, located in Essonne and Pas-de-.

“A way of clinging to the territory”

Note that this new name, validated by the government in an official decree dated August 8, 2024, has not not chosen at random.

“It’s a way of clinging to the territory, to our history and our geography. We have the Rhône park, 5 kilometers along the river…”, Xavier Odo, the city’s mayor, explained to us in a previous interview.

If the locals will undoubtedly continue to speak of “Grigny” orally, the addition of the words “sur-Rhône” will undoubtedly clarify the situation between the three French communes.
