This Haute- association is looking for foster families for mistreated animals

“I remember it like it was yesterday,” admits Léa

. Almost a year ago to the day, on November 27, 2023, she opened the doors of her home to Molly. Abused for several weeks, this white Pyrenees mountain dog was unrecognizable: frighteningly thin, disoriented and totally fearful. Alerted anonymously about her situation, the Sauvet’Animaux 43 association then contacted Léa to get her back on her feet. “It was only supposed to be temporary,” remembers Marie, a volunteer with this association which works to help mistreated animals, in conjunction with the Animal Protection Brigade (BPA).

Eventually, time passes. Léa and her little family are taking more and more affection for this sweet dog, who is getting back on track. So when last March, Marie came to tell her that Molly was going to have to find an adoptive family, the mother of two children could not bring herself to do so. “I couldn’t part with it,” she confesses, moved to tears.

Host families play a vital role

This beautiful story could be that of anyone. Sauvet’Animaux 43 is looking for families capable of temporarily welcoming dogs, but also and above all cats, turtles, rabbits, guinea pigs. “The association is not a shelter, Marie would like to point out. We do not have the infrastructure to receive them. So, before finding a permanent family for these animals, which have been reported to us as being mistreated, we We need foster homes. Their role is essential!”

And there are a lot of mistreated animals. “We think there is none here, as we are more in the countryside, but not at all,” assures Léa. “In fact, the abuse is not only physical. It can also be psychological.”

“Having a Labrador or Malinois live in an enclosed space of less than 10 m² is abuse.” Lea

However, welcoming an animal is not an act to be taken lightly. It’s a real responsibility. Even more so when it concerns a cat or a dog victim of abuse. Veterinary follow-up is very often necessary. However, this takes time and can be very expensive. Sauvet’Animaux 43 would like to point out that the costs are borne by the association, as well as the food. In this sense, she is mainly looking for host families in her area. Namely Brioude, Issoire and Clermont-Ferrand. “Unfortunately, Puy-en-Velay is far away for us. Just to transport kibble, for example,” explains Marie, based in the Mining Basin. Practical. [email protected] Information by telephone at 07.67.44.71.44, by email at

or on the Sauvet’Animaux 43 Facebook page. Membership price: €20. It is also possible to make a donation by sending a check to the Sainte-Florine town hall.

For her part, Léa would like to clarify to interested families that children – even young ones – are absolutely not a constraint. Quite the contrary. She takes her personal case as an example: “If Molly was able to get back into shape so quickly, it is mainly thanks to my eldest daughter. From the first day, she welcomed her perfectly into the family.” Likewise, already having other animals is not a hindrance, as long as it is well taken into consideration.

Seven semi-feral cats need shelter

The Sauvet’Animaux 43 association is urgently looking for shelter for seven semi-feral cats, all identified with tattoos. They therefore do not need an apartment or a house, simply an open space to eat and protect themselves from the vagaries of the weather. “In the lot, three accept the caresses without any worries,” assures Marie, a volunteer within the association. At first glance, this is not the case for the other four, but nothing is impossible…

Two of seven cats looking for a foster family.Ideally, we should be able to accommodate all seven at once, but this is not obligatory. It is entirely possible to house them in pairs or individually. If possible also, families must live on the route from Brioude to Clermont-Ferrand, in order to facilitate the monitoring of the cats by the association. Indeed, veterinary costs and food are covered by Sauvet’Animaux 43.
