One of the important concerns during these festive periods is above all being able to travel in complete safety. In this regard, weather conditions play a major role. These conditions are generally favorable at the end of December 2024, whether for Christmas, but also for New Year’s Eve, where the weather should remain fairly calm temporarily. We are far from the stormy weather of 1999 or the historic snowfall which paralyzed Normandy and Ile-de-France on New Year’s Eve on December 31, 1978 or even the freezing cold of New Year’s Day 1997 with – 11.2°C in Paris.
However, the return of rain and wind is confirmed for the evening of December 31, before the return of cold weather on January 1.
Towards milder and rainier weather for December 31 before a sharp cooling?

To date, weather models predict continued anticyclonic weather until early next week. This will guarantee calm weather, without bad weather, but often gray and foggy. Fog is now the parameter that may bother you if you have to drive at night and in the morning.
After the weekendoceanic disturbances will return to the north of the Loire, with a gentler, but humid flow. Rain and wind could therefore be expected in the northern half for New Year’s Eve on Tuesday, December 31. This disturbance could then descend towards the south for January 1, 2025, followed by a shift in the wind to the north, bringing a sharp cooling for New Year’s Day. This situation will bring further snowfall at low altitudes for the end of the school holidays.

This development seems relatively reliable to us now. It will remain to refine the chronology of this degradation and its propagation in our country during the night of New Year’s Eve. A priori, the southern regions should remain dry before the deterioration which will occur on January 1st.

In summary, we will remember that the weather conditions will not be cold for the end of the year, but that rain should return, at least north of the Loire. On the other hand, a sharp drop in temperatures seems inevitable for New Year’s Day, with snow at low altitude, possibly even on the Lorraine plateaus.
The whole team wishes you a very happy holiday season.
