Wishing to maintain and develop “the Army-youth link”, air base 921, in Val-d’Oise, signed partnerships on Thursday, December 12 with two defense classes in Val-d’Oise, the college Saint-Pie

Defense classes are included in the 2016 interministerial protocol aimed at developing the link between youth and defense.

“This partnership, in connection with defense education, aims, on the one hand, to introduce students to the actors and issues of defense and, on the other hand, to develop the link between the Army and the Nation. »

During the duration of these partnerships, exchanges between the military and young people, duty of remembrance actions and even visits are scheduled.

Thus, Thursday December 12, thirty middle school students attended the colors ceremony then the visit to the 921 “Freres Mahé” air base in Taverny with the presentation of the air gendarmerie brigade (responsible for protecting the base ), including the highly secret location of the buried structure, where the nerve center of the airborne nuclear deterrent force is located.

And the officer made this moment a life lesson:

“We work for a goal greater than ourselves. Alone, we cannot go far, but by supporting each other, we can do great things.”

Beyond the military, the latter wished everyone to “thrive by being in the service of an interest greater than themselves”. And to confide his joy of “sharing” with “younger people than us, who will take over. We are all passing through, we pass the torch” and conclude in front of the students: “We form the same national community”.

For Patricia Hijji, professor of history and geography at the Saint-Jean de college, the defense class is linked to general subjects of the 3 year program.e. “What is interesting is that lecture subjects take on a concrete dimension. We will study how a commemorative day is organized and study the functioning of democracy through a visit to the National Assembly and the Senate.”

Dominique Lelong André, director of the two establishments in Sannois, evokes the idea of an “awareness of being part of a nation”.

The rekindling of the flame at the Arc de Triomphe, a visit to the Army Museum and Mont Valérien, but also meetings with elected officials and the European Parliament are also scheduled.

“We sometimes have young people who are far from the values of the Republic,” breathes the manager, who evokes the idea of creating “vocations. Every year, we have young people who go to foam school after receiving a visit from the French Navy to the careers forum. The army is 1,001 professions. Not everyone has the chance to visit an air base. In addition, at home, we have dropout students who are in difficulty, it is important that they become aware of these values which are important to the Apprentis d’Auteuil, created by one of the founders of the National Union of Combatants.

“General culture”

Message received and positive visit for most of the students interviewed. “It was super interesting, it gives us general knowledge and it can help us for the certificate of being in a defense class, I thank the college for offering us this opportunity to visit an air base,” underlines Lilou, 14 years old, grade 3 studente at Saint-Jean college in Domont.
