Shortage of teachers in the Lot: last minute replacements planned

the essential
While several schools in the Lot risked finding themselves without a teaching position at the start of the January 2025 school year, last-minute replacements saved the day.

It’s a little Christmas present for Saint-Céré. “Dasen promised us a person to replace the director (and teacher) of the nursery school from the first week of January for the duration of her maternity leave,” breathes, relieved, the mayor of the town, Dominique Bizat. Saint-Céré, like others, threatened to find itself faced with a shortage of teachers for the start of the January school year. Fortunately, things seem, for now, resolved.

Since mid-December, two other towns found themselves in this situation: Figeac and Biars-sur-Cère. “The numbers are limited, but if it remains stable like that, we will be able to hold on,” nuance the councilor of Biars-sur-Cère, Angèle Préville. “There is no elimination in sight. »

A contract worker for Figeac

Concerning Figeac, anger had rumbled. On December 20, teachers and elected officials mobilized in front of the Paul Bert school in Figeac, where a retiring teacher was not to be replaced at the start of the January school year. For Éléonore Chapel of FCPE Figeac, “the situation is catastrophic” and illustrated “the deterioration of the school system”. For everyone, the retirement of the school teacher was planned and should have been anticipated. A complicated situation to live with when the children concerned had already suffered the closure of a class last year. An inconvenience which will not be repeated since, at the end of this day of demonstration, Dasen had announced the recruitment of a contract teacher for the beginning of January.
