It is one of the new curiosities of winter in the Pyrénées-Orientales. On the fringes of the famous Barcarès Christmas Village, another site has attracted crowds in recent weeks. In Céret, the theme park Splendors of Chine has just passed a symbolic milestone by reaching 100,000 reservations. A first edition already successful.

Splendors of China attract the curious

Thousands of lanterns, magical paintings once night falls and an enchanting setting in the grounds of the Château d'Aubiry, for an atmosphere that immerses the public in the heart of China. Just 25 minutes from Perpignan and a few kilometers from the Spanish border, the new Céret theme park met with some success this winter.

Open mid-November, and until mid-February, the ephemeral site has already crossed the threshold of 100,000 reservations (for 60,000 visitors). He who aims, ultimately, to reach 300,000 entries per year, as the organizers confided, a few months before the big launch.

Despite a few stormy or rainy episodes, the weather conditions did not calm the visitors' enthusiasm. Many curious people wanted to discover this new event proposal in the department. So much so that the capacity of 5,000 people is often reached every Saturday evening.

Sometimes mixed Google reviews

Lanterns, entertainment, food… The famous Aubiry park has undoubtedly been imbued with Chinese culture. A magic sublimated by numerous fireworks, taken regularly from the castle, whose facade also offers a very beautiful mapping. The only downside to this first edition is the sometimes mixed Google reviews.

The event has had a rating of 3.3/5 since its launch, weighed down in particular by some reviews which highlight prices considered “excessive” for the time spent on site. As a reminder, the entry is between 14 and 16 euros for adultsand between 11 and 13 euros for teenagers. However, the site is free for under-10s.

And the organizers seem to have taken this initial feedback into account. They announce to News Perpignan discounts of 5 euros for visitors from Sunday to Thursday. “Reduction coupons have been distributed at the entrance since the holidays,” they specify.

Upcoming special events

The entertainment offering has also been expanded. New workshops culinary (crystal moon cake, tea ceremony, Chinese dumplings, etc.) but also calligraphy are organized at 6:30 p.m., from Sunday to Thursday. Without forgetting the rich program that awaits visitors for the days and weeks to come.

A special evening is organized for December 31“and there are still a few places left,” announce the organizers. For 120 euros per person, each visitor will enjoy an aperitif (cocktail and sweets) and a meal (starter, main course, cheese, dessert, coffee then glass of champagne at midnight) in front of an orchestra.

A fireworks display and a mapping on the castle will also be offered to celebrate the transition to 2025, followed by a DJ to end the night, “until 4 a.m.”, it is specified. “Lots of surprises are coming for chinese new year which will take place on January 29 with the transition to the year of the snake,” the site finally promises.
