France is on the verge of breaking a new record for business creations in one year, with the one million mark surpassed last November. A dynamic which nevertheless occurs in a context of economic uncertainties, and which is also accompanied by a significant number of business failures.
This is a symbolic bar that was crossed in 2024: that of the million companies created this year between January and November. This represents 60,000 more companies than over the same period a year ago, and the absolute record for 2022 with 1.1 million companies will therefore be beaten. This frenzy of business creation is partly explained by the enthusiasm of micro-entrepreneurs, whose projects represent more than two thirds of new businesses.

The number of business bankruptcies also reaches new heights
A dynamic which is also not slowed down by the economic context, according to François Hurel, president of the Union of Auto-Entrepreneurs. “Gloom can encourage people to create, precisely to prepare, anticipate, free themselves or begin to free themselves, from the subordination of the employee model,” he believes at the microphone of Europe 1. More generally, this dynamic is driven by three sectors: transport, accommodation and industry.
However, starting a business does not mean guaranteeing its viability. Moreover, the number of bankruptcies is also reaching new heights. The number of insolvencies in 2024 is close to the record in 2009, at the height of the financial crisis.
