Choking hazard: plush toys recalled by Health Canada

Toys from the Mother and Baby brand were recalled by Health Canada on Christmas Eve due to a choking risk.

The products affected by this recall are plush toys that take the shape of several animals, including elephant, giraffe, lion, tiger and panda. These toys are attached to small models for babies.

“Health Canada has determined, after sampling and evaluation, that this product does not comply with the Toy Regulations under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. Tests have allowed Health Canada to note that the eyes of plush toys can detach from the toy, thus posing a choking hazard for young children,” the federal agency said in a press release.

Fortunately, no incident reports and no injuries have been reported to the company or Health Canada.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled plush toys and return them to the place of purchase for a refund,” she said.
