After five years marked by the tragic fire and Covid, traders in the Notre-Dame district have noted an increase in attendance since the reopening of the cathedral.
They live again. If the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris has delighted the faithful, who have flocked to the cathedral since it is once again possible to access it, the neighborhood's traders are also over the moon.
After going through five gloomy years following the terrible fire of April 2019, they found a large number of customers coming to rediscover the Parisian religious building.
30,000 to 35,000 visitors per day
“We have quite a few people,” rejoices Johanna Miquel, restaurateur in the cathedral district. It notes that its clientele has increased by “half” since the reopening of the monument on December 8.
“There is a lot more tourism, people stop, they visit. I would say that there are a lot more people,” she continues at the microphone of BFM Paris Île-de-France.
The restaurateur speaks of her relief, after the past years, marked by closures due to fire and Covid. “It was complicated in terms of turnover (…), it’s nice to be able to reopen and be able to work again,” she concludes.
Since the reopening, between 30,000 and 35,000 people visit the cathedral every day. The week of December 16, more than 260,000 went to the building, where the first Christmas masses were celebrated on Tuesday, December 24.
