Nanterre: prison officers refuse them cigarettes, two inmates set their mattresses on fire

One of them was transported in absolute emergency. Two inmates from the Hauts-de-Seine remand center in Nanterre were taken into care this Tuesday evening, December 24, by firefighters, after setting fire to their mattresses in their cell.

It was around 11:20 p.m. when these two inmates set their mattresses on fire because the prison guards did not want to give them cigarettes. Intoxicated by smoke inhalation, one of two prisoners was evacuated to the Saint-Louis hospital in Paris (Xe) with a life-threatening prognosis. His fellow prisoner was in a state of relative emergency.

They call for help with their cell phones from their cell

One of these two men was detained for drug trafficking. A procedure for “voluntary damage” was launched against the two prisoners, but an investigation was also opened to elucidate the circumstances in which emergency services were notified and determine whether there was “failure to assist anyone in danger” from prison staff. According to our information, the two detainees would have in fact contacted emergency services themselves using their mobile phones from their cell.
