She gave her mother time to enjoy her duck dish, but not to taste the cheese. Expected for January 16, little Luce finally chose Christmas night to make her debut into the world. An hour from where his parents were having New Year's Eve.
“We were at my mother’s for New Year’s Eve, in Châteauroux,” says Émilie. When the contractions grip her stomach, the cheese platter is not yet on the table, but most of the presents have been unwrapped. Despite some hesitation – “we didn't want to go to MCH for nothing” – the decision to move to Limoges was made. Émilie is at very high risk of contracting a rare disease after giving birth. Châteauroux cannot manage this risk, even if the mother is from Indre.
It's 11 p.m., the maternity suitcase is in the trunk and Elie, 5 years old, can spend the night at his grandmother's house, while waiting to meet his little sister. The frequency of Emilie's pain announces that it is time to leave.
More than an hour's drive
On the road, the fog does not help the progress of Florian, Émilie's companion. “She kept asking if we were far away,” he says. In the passenger seat, she twists and turns… Impossible to find a comfortable position. The road, of which she feels the slightest imperfection, will last more than an hour. When she enters the maternity ward, the pass is open at 3. It's one in the morning and the team welcoming her is wearing Christmas headbands.
The delivery will be brief, without complications. “The midwife put her feet in the stirrups at 6:09 a.m. and Luce was born at 6:13 a.m., in just two pushes, calmly,” confides Florian, amazed.
With a pink hat on her head and wrapped in the sleeping bag her big brother was wearing, little Luce will soon find the arms of Morpheus to regain her strength. The serene face. Imperturbable. Near her, her parents contrast, their faces marked by the sleepless night. But their gaze, certainly surrounded, is tenderly turned towards the one who upset their end of the year.
A name that brings light
“We didn't want to call her Lucie directly, like my grandmother, but we wanted to take inspiration from this first name. We already had it in mind during the first pregnancy,” explains Émilie. “Luce” for “Lucie”, therefore, but also for luxthat is to say “light”. Quite a symbol… of Christmas.
Besides, should we see a sign in this: The shadow that hovered over Émilie has dissipated. She did not contract the disease to which the statistics had almost condemned her.
