No surprise guests this year. But always a chess tournament promising for Tufek Ababsa. The president of the chess club is currently preparing to host the 16th edition of l'open international de Rouena tournament open to all members of a club looking for a challenge.

This year again, it will be held at the Canvas Hall. It will begin Thursday December 26 and end on Monday December 30, 2024.

Two tournaments in the same place

Like last year, the Rouen Open will be divided in two parts. A tournament “for experienced playerspresents Tufek Ababsa and a tournament for beginners”. The winner of the first will receive a prize of 700 euros. That of the second 300 euros.

The president of the Rouen club reassures: “It is still possible to register until December 26 (opening day, Editor’s note) between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. » To participate, you must be licensed but any novice can take their license on site and join the Rouen club.

For the confirmed tournament, count on a registration of 50 euros. And 40 euros for the beginner part.

A young French prodigy will be present

If there will be no Alireza Firouzja this year, the Rouen chess club tournament will still be able to count on another French prodigy: the young David Lacan-Rus. Aged 12 and licensed to the club, he was world chess champion under 10 in 2022 and is currently number one French under 12.

Because in addition to the two open tournaments, a third mixed tournament, closed and by invitation, will be held in parallel at the Halle aux Toiles. Among the participants, we therefore find David Lacan-Rus, but also some prestigious guests.

Some of them, including young David, are candidates for the standard of international master or even international female grandmaster.
