After shining in the Metz jersey last season with 14 goals in 22 games, Georges Mikautadze returned to Olympique Lyonnais this summer, leaving Moselle. The transfer was concluded for 18.5 million euros, not including any bonuses.
The return to Lyon was complicated for the Georgian international. From the first day of Ligue 1, a missed penalty against Rennes symbolized his difficult start. Nevertheless, he opened his goal tally for Lyon on October 27 with a brace against Auxerre.
Mikautadze continued his momentum with another double against Qarabag in the Europa League. Other notable performances followed against Angers, Paris, and Feignies-Aulnoye in the Coupe de France, marking a clear awakening for the player.
According to a source close to OL cited by L'Équipe, Mikautadze “had somewhat 'amateur' habits and he needed to overcome the demands of a big club and a very high level. He put in place what was needed to achieve this and we are very happy with his progress.”
Mikautadze's relationship with Saïd Benrahma, who is also going through a delicate period, has been beneficial. The sports daily underlines that this friendship “is one of the factors in his current good fortune”.
Now that Mikautadze has regained his effectiveness, it remains crucial for him to maintain this level of performance. Expectations are high and he will have to continue working so as not to lose this positive dynamic.
