Ain. Grand Bourg agglomeration has finally found an insurer for its vehicle fleet

The alert was launched during the last community council on December 16. “We are hanging on to an insurer who is willing to insure the company and service vehicles of Grand Bourg agglomeration, but also the household waste bins,” said Sébastien Gobert, vice-president for sports, general administration and human resources.

“The insurer warned us late, he gave the cause as a fatal accident,” explained the vice-president during the council. This tragedy cost the life of a GBA deputy director as well as two teenage girls on January 11, 2023, in Jayat. The deputy director of Carré d'eau in Bourg-en-Bresse was going to work with his Grand Bourg-branded car.

“It is not normal for insurers to be able to unilaterally terminate a contract”

The two calls for tenders launched by the Agglo to find a new insurer received no response. To try to break this deadlock, elected officials delegated the signing of a possible contract to the president, to simplify and accelerate the procedure.

Jean-François Debat, president of Grand Bourg agglomeration, is relieved but angry: “Finally we ended up finding insurance, it is not a French group. I remain angry, there is a problem and the law must change. It is not normal for insurers to be able to unilaterally terminate a contract without any recourse. We have an obligation to have insurance for vehicles and there is no insurance available. This can concern communities but also businesses or individuals. The same goes for cracked houses. There should be a different organization where each insurer takes its share of risks. They should distribute among themselves those they do not want to insure…”.
