The European Parliament's general directorate responsible for cybersecurity will move from Brussels to Strasbourg in 2025, we learned on Tuesday from a parliamentary source, confirming information from La Lettre.
The decision to move this general directorate to the Alsatian metropolis, which already houses the Cybersecurity Risks and Threats unit, was taken on December 16 by the office of the European Parliament, added this source.
Parliament confirms “reorganization”
For its part, the European Parliament's communications service only confirmed to AFP a “reorganization” of the Directorate General for Innovation and Technological Support (ITEC), of which cybersecurity is one of the responsibilities, “from April 1, 2025.
In practice, the position of director for cybersecurity and IT governance should be located in Strasbourg. Additional staff from this general directorate should be gradually deployed there.
The European Parliament has two seats, in Brussels and Strasbourg. French elected officials regularly fight to strengthen the Strasbourg headquarters, the only one of the European institutions located in France, and whose interest is regularly called into question in Brussels.
