Goalkeeper coach of the France Espoirs team, Jérémie Janot crossed paths with Lucas Chevalier in Valenciennes. The latter left his mark there.
The last bastion of LOSC, the team with which he is competing in the Champions League this season, Lucas Chevalier (23) was in his first year as a professional only three years ago. At the time, he was on loan to Valenciennes, in Ligue 2. In Hainaut, he was coached by Jérémie Janot, goalkeeper coach. The latter, who also met him with the Espoirs tricolores, looked back on the beginnings of the Lille goalkeeper. Aged only 19, he was already impressive.
“Lucas (Chevalier), when he arrived. He gave off something, an aura. He had something. I say all the time that it's true, he started with me in Valenciennes, but If he hadn't performed well, I would have had to change jobs. If we give you a Lucas Chevalier and you return Tartempion…
You know what I mean, you have to change jobs”he explains from the outset in the podcast The Voice of the Guardians.
“The posture was in his gut and he was extraordinary”
Injured upon his arrival, Lucas Chevalier had to champ at the bit before making his debut, and become aware of the role incumbent on a starting goalkeeper: “I supported him in making him aware of being number 1 among professionals, what that entailed. But he is someone ambitious, who has perfect self-analysis. He knows when he has been good and he says so. It may seem… but I don't like fake modesty. When you're good, you're good. Afterwards, he also has this ability to recognize when he is less so.
Self-analysis is very, very important”continues the former AS Saint-Etienne goalkeeper.
In addition to his qualities in the game, Jérémie Janot was also marked by his presence in a locker room. Yet at a very young age, he managed to have an impact on the group at Valenciennes, which was fighting at the time to remain in the second division:
“And frankly, he gave us a season in Ligue 2… What he did in the locker room at 19… He was on loan from Lille, and whether we stayed or not, it didn't matter to him, he was returning to Lille whatever happened. But he took the maintenance mission head on, it was in his guts and he was extraordinary”he greeted, concluding on the Lucas Chevalier theme. The latter recently admitted that he wanted to further progress in this area: leadership.
