Since the winter of 2015/2016, the Pijolins district, south of Bourges, has had a 13.5 hectare urban forest. The Sébastien-Cartier ecological corridor, named in homage to the former deputy mayor for ecology, who died in 2016.
At the start of 2025, the municipality wishes to continue this corridor by planting 10,500 new young plants over 5.5 hectares. The city wants this new planting to be done with the residents.

Only the first twenty-five registered will be able to participate in the planting, the Wednesday January 15, 2025 afternoon, between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.. The meeting is given at the corner of Eirik Labonne and François Rude streets.
The city specifies that “if the weather conditions do not permit it, the operation will be postponed to the following Wednesday, i.e. 01/22/2025 at the same time”.
Objective: improve the migration of species between the different ecosystems of the neighborhood
At the end of the first planting carried out by children from schools in the area, almost half of the area had been reforested. 11,500 young forests, an area of around six hectares.
With this second phase, two types of plants will be planted : “on the edge of Maples, Dogwoods, Alisiers, Cormiers, Viburnums, Elderberries, etc. As for the plants intended for afforestation, these will rather be Alders, Hornbeams, Cherry Trees, Oaks, Hackberries, Ashes, Rowan Trees , Pines, etc.”, indicates the Bourges town hall.
This ecological corridor, or urban forest, constitutes a functional passage zone between several natural spaces, for the migration of species and the recolonization of environments disturbed by human activity.
