Le Carioca, historic snack bar in front of the large Carrefour d', will close

Georges Sabin, pizza in hand, opened Carioca in 1987. (DR).

Which doesn’t know Carioca? But what if… This snack bar, stationed at the entrance to the large Carrefour of the motorway ramp since 1987. At the time of Georges and Josette Sabin, we stopped there, before or after shopping, for a pâté sandwich or a club. Their real little touch was the mushroom-garlic supplement in their Americans: “My mother prepared 5 kilos of garlic, my father browned them with button mushrooms that he grilled and he added that to the Americans, it gave a unique taste. It's only us who make them like that !” assures Gilles, the son, who perpetuated the recipe.

“It’s 30 years of my life”

When he arrived in 1994, he expanded the family snack menu with tacos and kebabs. Every day, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.: “It's thirty years of my life”, he smiled, his eyes a little sad. Because Le Carioca is preparing to close on December 31. “I would have liked to open a company in my name to take over the business but we have a dispute with Carrefour, regrets Alexandra, Gilles' daughter, who prefers not to give more details. We will miss it but we are looking to settle elsewhere.”

Nearly 500 signatures to support them

And not just for family. On the internet, loyal customers have made a petition to ask Carrefour to “reconsider the closure of this emblematic place or to explore all possible alternatives to allow this establishment to continue to exist. The Carioca snack bar is a place of life , meeting, where we eat well” can we read under the 475 signatures collected. Contacted, Carrefour did not wish to communicate what it will be installed in place of the snack bar.
