A warm initiative
At the end of the year, Berrwiller, a member municipality of m2A, took part in the game of “Secret Santa” (or “Secret Santa” in English). For the second year in a row, the inhabitants of the village treated themselves to lovely presents, handmade or worth €5 maximum, as part of the “Village Christmas Surprise”. Since its launch in December 2023, this operation, proposed by the La Poste group, has generated real enthusiasm among the residents of the town.
“This action perfectly represents the values of Berrwiller: living together, fraternity and conviviality.“
says Brigitte Herr, municipal councilor in charge of this event. She continues: “The people of Berrwiller are involved in the life of their village all year round. They were immediately won over by the concept. The first edition was a great success. The operation was renewed in 2024 with a new participating municipality, Roussillon en Provence.”
A giant “surprise Christmas”
The concept is simple. Residents make or buy a Christmas present which they then place in their mailbox. The village postman, Simohamed Balki, collects the packages and then distributes them.
“Each participant receives a gift in return, anonymously or not”
explains Brigitte Herr. She adds: “The gifts are accompanied by comforting words that warm hearts. This action helps bring the magic of Christmas to life. It highlights the united and creative spirit of Berrwillerois. The village's Christmas market, Berr'Noël, closed the operation in style with the announcement of the number of participants. More than 340 households got involved this year!”
