Paris has low morale with a population that is falling year after year. Between 2016 and 2022, the capital lost an average of 12,800 inhabitants per year. A phenomenon that seems set to last. But, not all the “large” municipalities of Île-de-France are in the same boat and on the contrary certain cities are experiencing real demographic dynamics according to the latest figures from INSEE.
Demographic dynamics in Seine-Saint-Denis
Between 2016 and 2022, the population of the Greater Paris metropolitan area (MGP) increased by 0.21% on an annual average. Demographic growth due mainly to Seine-Saint-Denis which is experiencing the greatest dynamism within the region, gaining 12,500 inhabitants each year (i.e. +0.76% per year).
In Seine-Saint-Denis, the dynamic territories are notably those of Est Ensemble (Bagnolet, Bobigny, Bondy, Le Pré-Saint-Gervais, Les Lilas, Montreuil, Noisy-le-Sec, Pantin, Romainville) and Grand Paris Grand Est (Clichy-sous-Bois, Coubron, Gagny, Gournay-sur-Marne, Raincy, Pavillons-sous-Bois, Livry-Gargan, Montfermeil, Neuilly-Plaisance, Neuilly-sur-Marne, Noisy-le-Grand, Rosny-sous-Bois, Vaujours and Villemomble), where the population is increasing at least twice as fast as the average in the region .
To a lesser extent, Plaine Commune (Aubervilliers, La Courneuve, Épinay-sur-Seine, L'Île-Saint-Denis, Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, Stains and Villetaneuse) is also on a good dynamic.
Asnières-sur-Seine, the “big” city of Île-de-France where the population is increasing the most
According to INSEE, other territories located to the south and southeast of Paris, such as Grand-Orly Seine Bièvre and Grand Paris Sud Est Avenir, also contribute to the demographic dynamism of the MGP. This is also the case for the Northern Loop of the Seine (Argenteuil, Asnières-sur-Seine, Bois-Colombes, Clichy-la-Garenne, Colombes, Gennevilliers, Villeneuve-la-Garenne), located north of Hauts-de-Seine. .
Among the most populous municipalities in the Ile-de-France region, it is precisely Asnières-sur-Seine which displays the greatest average annual growth (+1.04%): in six years, the municipality of Hauts-de-Seine has gained 5,484 inhabitants. . A recent ranking of Figaro on the cities where life is good in the department ranked it 11th out of 37.
