The Dakar Municipal Council traveled to Saly, in the Mbour region, for a seminar held from December 19 to 22. This retreat, organized under the theme “Getting ready for 2025”, aimed to assess 2024 performance and plan for the following year. However, the presence of Barthélemy Dias, dismissed mayor of Dakar, aroused tensions which marked the event.
According to The Echoesthe work took place in a studious atmosphere until the arrival of Barthélemy Dias on Saturday. His participation, seen as problematic by some, divided the advisors. While some gave him a warm welcome, others expressed their disapproval. Among them, Pape Aliou Gningue, close to Malick Gakou, publicly expressed his opposition. “As soon as Barthélemy arrived, some applauded him, but others grumbled”reports the newspaper.
Aliou Gningue went further by speaking out to declare that Dias' presence was inappropriate. This intervention provoked a strong reaction from several advisors, notably Amy Top, member of the Benno Bokk Yakaar coalition. Heated exchanges and insults followed, before the situation was brought under control. Gningue was finally escorted outside by his colleagues, which helped restore calm.
Barthélemy Dias remains stoic
Unmoved by these turmoil, Barthélemy Dias waited for the tension to subside before speaking. In his speech, he took the opportunity to criticize the Youth Olympic Organizing Committee (YOGOC) and settle some scores. He also encouraged municipal councilors to continue their commitment, while apologizing for the inconvenience caused. Shortly after his intervention, he left the scene.
