More than five years after the terrible fire which had seriously damaged the building, the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral was reopened to the public on December 8, 2024. However, its restoration does not yet offer the possibility to visit the towers…
“There is still work to be completed”
In fact, the north and south towers are still closed. As Le Parisien reminds us, if the rest of the cathedral is entrusted to the Church, the visit to this part of the building is managed by the Center of National Monuments (CMN).
Our colleagues spoke with Cécile Rives, the tower administrator for the same CMN. And if she claims to have “looking forward to releasing them to the public“, she explains that he “remaining work to be completednotably the cover of the arrow. In the belfry, everything is not finished either.
An improved experience?
The interlocutor also announced that “development work to change and improve the visit route” are also in progress. “An introductory room for the visit” will also be on the agenda, with the frame of the belfry which can be admired and the construction of a new staircase in order to be in contact with the two large bells, named Marie and Emmanuel. New windows, glimpse of the brand new framework, view of the spire and the capital… Notre-Dame Cathedral has obviously not yet finished revealing its surprises.
Heading for summer
An objective has already been set in terms of date: the towers should be accessible from summer 2025. With a price “slightly revised upwardsbut the price is not yet fixed“, concluded Cécile Rives to our colleagues.
