The Association of Companies in the Information and Communication Technologies Sector (RESTIC) recently called on Senegalese parliamentarians for greater transparency in the allocation of 5G licenses. This plea comes in a context marked by questions about the criteria and processes governing this major technological transition.
RESTIC emphasizes that the arrival of 5G, although essential for the digital development of Senegal, must be accompanied by rigorous and inclusive management. Officials are calling for a broader consultation, involving all stakeholders, including telecommunications operators, consumer associations and technology experts.
According to RESTIC leaders, increased transparency would help avoid irregularities that could harm the image of the sector. Indeed, the development of 5G represents a strategic challenge, not only to improve the country's connectivity and competitiveness, but also to guarantee equitable coverage throughout the territory, including rural areas.
At the same time, officials are calling for better communication on the benefits of this technology in order to counter fears related to environmental and health impacts. RESTIC also insists on the need for affordable prices, allowing all Senegalese to benefit from the opportunities offered by 5G.
Finally, this advocacy highlights the need for the Senegalese government to adopt an ethical and transparent approach to establish citizen confidence in this crucial technological transformation.
