passengers stranded due to the “strong wind” alert in Corsica

Several flights to and from Corsica were unable to take off this Sunday, December 22, due to weather conditions. In in particular, flights to Figari, and have been canceled. A hassle for some passengers who were planning to reach the island, two days before Christmas.

Two days before Christmas, this is bad news for some passengers.

This Sunday, December 22, in Nice, all flights departing for Corsica were canceled this afternoon. Planes for Figari, Ajaccio and Bastia are affected.

The cause: bad weather conditions and, in particular, strong wind.

“I worked until this morning in the perfumery where I work in addition to my history studies, I only had this slot to returnlaments Jessica, 23, stuck at Nice airport. I'm afraid we won't be able to leave, I don't know if Air Corsica will be able to offer additional flights tomorrow, two days before Christmas…”

In all airports on the island, flights have been canceled since Sunday afternoon. In Bastia, Ajaccio and Figari, flights to , Nice and have been canceled. In Calvi, the plane for Paris was unable to take off.

The airline sector is not the only one affected. On the maritime transport side, the port of Bastia had to close this Sunday. “Two ships from Corsica Ferries were due to enter the port at the end of the afternoon, they preferred to cancel their crossings. Another boat from Corsica Linea brought its journey forward. There were no more boats planned for the day”indicated the harbor master's office early in the afternoon, while specifying that the port could resume normal activity tomorrow, Monday.

As a reminder, this Sunday, December 22, Corsica is placed on yellow “wind” vigilance by Météo-France services.

This alert took effect at noon and will remain active until at least tomorrow Monday, 10 a.m.

Météo-France called for the greatest caution in the face of these degraded weather conditions.
