Up to 15 cm of snow forecast: road conditions could be difficult in southern Quebec for the start of the holiday season

Regions located in southern Quebec could receive 10 to 15 cm of snow as early as Monday afternoon, which could complicate travel at the start of the holiday season.

Environment Canada also issued, on Sunday afternoon, a winter road conditions advisory in effect from December 23 to 24, 2024.

Thus, residents of the sectors of Montreal, Montérégie, Lanaudière, Laurentides, Outaouais, Mauricie, Centre-du-Québec and Estrie will be able to rejoice in having a white Christmas, but will have to be careful about roads from Monday evening to Tuesday morning.

“If you must take the road, be prepared to deal with areas where visibility is poor,” warns Environment Canada.

Snow precipitation should begin around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, December 23, in the Gatineau area and continue until around 5 a.m. on the morning of December 24. A total of 10 to 15 cm is expected in this region.

In Montreal, snow is expected to start falling around 4:30 p.m. on December 23. In total, 10 to 15 cm are expected in the area until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Snow should fall at the same time in the Mont-Tremblant area, but a little less snow is expected, i.e. 5 to 10 cm.

The clouds carrying snow will continue their way east and should reach Trois-Rivières around 6:30 p.m. Monday. 10 to 15 cm are expected to fall on the region until 7 a.m. on December 24.

In the Quebec region, 5 to 10 cm of snow should fall between 8:30 p.m. on December 23 and 7 a.m. on December 24.

For the Sherbrooke sector, 10 cm of snow is expected. It should fall between 8:30 p.m. Monday evening and 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.
