INTERVIEW – Present for the verdict at the trial of the assassination of Samuel Paty, his sister Mickaëlle confides her relief at the sentences handed down, and describes the verbal and physical hostility that she faced until the end in court.
Heavy sentences of up to 16 years' imprisonment were handed down Friday evening by the Paris Special Assize Court, against the eight adults tried for the role they played in the assassination of Samuel Paty in 2020 by the terrorist Abdoullakh Anzorov. On the benches of the civil parties, Mickaëlle Paty attended the verdict with relief: it turned out to be much more severe, ultimately, than the lenient accusations retained during the indictment. But as soon as the sentences were announced, the already electric atmosphere became even more tense in the room, forcing the sister of the murdered professor to hastily leave the premises under heavy police escort. In doing so, she was therefore unable to speak in front of the cameras as is customary at the end of a trial. Le Figaro collected his impressions a posteriori.
