With an increase of 2,657 inhabitants in six years, more than twice the number of new inhabitants in Saint-Malo (plus 1,250 between 2016 and 2022), these are the municipalities of the Agglo excluding Saint-Malo (Ille- et-Vilaine) which boost demographics.
However, there are disparities between the seventeen municipalities. Saint-Méloir-des-Ondes pulls the biggest wagon, with an average annual increase of 2.5%, or 634 additional inhabitants. The milestone of 4,000 inhabitants has now been crossed, since the town is home to 4,032 souls.
Behind, Miniac-Morvan which, with 4,379 inhabitants, is the third largest municipality in the Agglomeration, behind Saint-Malo and Cancale. It continues to grow with an average annual gain of 1.9%, or 477 additional inhabitants. This is more than Cancale, which recorded growth of 1.3%, or 410 additional Cancalais, for 5,554 inhabitants.
A percentage identical to that observed in La Gouesnière: more than 150 inhabitants in six years, “thanks in particular to the construction of a new neighborhood on the edge of the urban area, made up of 25 new privately owned housing units and 17 social rental housing units, explains Joël Hamel, mayor. And this, in compliance with the rules of the Local Housing Program (PLH) of Saint-Malo agglomeration”.
But these progressions cannot hide the maritime danger which worries Saint-Malo and is already impacting Saint-Benoît-des-Ondes, stopped in its urban planning by restrictions linked to the risk of marine submersion. By losing 40 inhabitants (-0.7% per year), sometimes replaced by secondary residents, it fell back below the 1,000 inhabitants mark (966 exactly).
La Fresnais also loses inhabitants: – 0.2% each year, while Châteauneuf-d'Ille-et-Vilaine and Hirel, show a rate of 0%, with four inhabitants gained each during these six years, not weighing enough to impact the percentage of evolution.
