They should have been held on January 16, but ultimately they will not take place. The mayor of Auxerre and president of the Auxerre urban community, Crescent Marrault, announced the cancellation of the 2025 greetings ceremony in a press release sent this Sunday, December 22.
In this press release, he mentions the “uncertainties surrounding the government of the Republic” which would create, among residents, “a form of anxiety”, as well as “the absence of a parliamentary majority”, but also the non-finalization of the budget 2025 of the Nation, which “confronts individuals and the economic world with a lack of visibility which prevents them from planning ahead”. “Faced with this situation,” writes the mayor, “I consider, as a matter of responsibility, that it would be incongruous to organize wishes in 2025.”
Vows already canceled in 2023
Crescent Marault had organized wish ceremonies with great fanfare in 2024 and 2022, with the arrival of Nelson Monfort, on the one hand, and a “television news” presented by Jean-Marc Sylvestre, on the other. However, this is not the first time that the city has canceled wishes: in 2023, the public ceremony did not take place due to the “energy context”.
This Sunday evening, certain opposition elected officials are already reacting to the press release. “What is the relationship between the cancellation of wishes and a government situation,” asks Matthieu Debain, under the Facebook post published by the City.
The 2025 ceremony should have been placed “under the sign of the innovation necessary for the attractiveness of our territory, confirmed by demographic growth”.
