A random discovery

“Tufting?” I started doing it and I never stopped,” laughs the young woman. If Mamie Cécé, Célia of her real name, has become addicted to tuftingit's totally by chance. “For my 25th birthday, my friends gave me a tufting gun, the device that makes it possible to weave the canvas. I'd never heard of it, but I love anything creative. I learned about social networkswith YouTube videosand I couldn’t do without it,” says the young woman.

But what is tufting?

“Tufting is a creative art which allows us to design carpet of all sizes and shapes,” explains the young woman. Thanks to a tufting gunthe artist will come weave wool on a stretched canvasto create a shape.

“First of all, I draw on the computer my sketchgenerally what my customers order from me, then I put them on the web before sending them tufts“, adds Célia. You then have to glue everything together using carpet glue and shave the design to make the wool uniform.

From key rings… to coasters

“These are mats that can be used for everything. I make coasters, key holders, wall mats, computer mats... we are totally free in this art and that’s what I liked. All it takes is a drawing and we can make the carpet into lots of objects,” she adds.

From a passion to a profession

“It took me 6 months to create pretty rugs. At first it was simply a passion and then it took up more and more space in my life. Over the months, I decided to only work 80% in the communications agency where I was,” continues Célia. Then in July 2024the latter completely leaves her job to devote herself to 100% to his new project.

“It’s not profitable at the moment, but I really enjoy it. With tufting you can create All what you want with everything you have in your hands,” concludes Mamie Cécé.
