This is the first year that we do it two days before. The Blesois group of Little Brothers of the Poor organized its traditional Christmas Eve meal… Sunday, December 22. “We would have liked to do it on the 24th but it’s complicated to find a restaurant open that day that is willing to welcome us until the end of the afternoon,” explains Francis Tisserand, treasurer of the Little Brothers of the Poor of Blois and its Valley team, which extends throughout the Agglopolys territory and celebrated its 10th anniversary this year.
In total, 41 guests – 15 volunteers and 26 people accompanied by Les Petits Frères des Poors – gathered at midday at the restaurant L'Évidence, in Cour-Cheverny, for a convivial meal, accompanied by a duo of musicians. This is one of the actions organized each year to break the isolation of people aged over 55. “in great precariousness”.
“It changes my mind”
“It allows them to get out of their homes and see something else”indicates Francis Tisserand, before recalling that the volunteers from the Blesoise branch regularly telephone or visit the approximately 30 people supported. Among them are two new ones, including Dominique. This resident of Blois lives alone and feels “a little helpless”.
He joined Les Petits Frères to “get out of loneliness” et “dialogue” with other people. With his table neighbors, he talked about gardening or cooking: “It changes my mind.” Thierry, also Blésois, comes to pick up “warmth and friendship”.
At the end of the meal, everyone left with a small packet of treats and toiletries, donations from local businesses. Before looking towards the year 2025, Chantal Dansault, founder of the Blésoise branch, specifies that Les Petits Frères des Poors supports “more and more people” et “lack of volunteers with vehicles”. To the wise.
