The elected officials of Franqueville-Saint-Pierre (Seine-Maritime) near have agreed to take a big step in the fight against global warming and to save money on the city's electricity bills.

Photovoltaic panels on two sites

Bruno Guilbert then presented the agreement concluded with the company Serm Aser, to install shade houses (in other words photovoltaic panels) on two sites in the municipality. Two 281 kWp shade houses covering 1,256 m2 or 624 photovoltaic panels along the sidelines of the Vion stadium football field: “so parents and athletes will be able to watch matches or training sessions sheltered from the sun or rain” .

The cost of the investment is borne by the company. She installs the shades. With a 30-year contract, we receive a small fee for land use.

The others with a power of 228 kWp, or 506 photovoltaic panels over 1,021 m2, will be installed in the cemetery parking lot and on a strip of land at the back: “the cost of the investment is covered by the company. She installs the shades. With a 30-year contract, we receive a small fee for land use. Every year it also asks us whether or not to buy the electricity produced. We will have a price quoted. If it is higher than our usual supplier, we will not take it. If it is lower, we will have a choice. In a simulation, for 2023, we could have made a saving of 14,000 euros. Commissioning could take place at the end of 2025, beginning of 2026.”

Discussion was also carried out at the municipal technical center, on the vehicle parking lot and on the salt silo.

And on the roof of the town hall?

One question raised the possibility of photovoltaic panels on the roof of City Hall, a site on which the mayor conceded that there were difficulties. “According to the plans, we could do it, but an additional study showed that the construction did not entirely respect the initial plans and that the structure would not support the weight of the panels due to the greater span of the concrete. We are now looking at the nursery and the Municipal Police, hoping that we will not have the same surprises,” explained Bruno Guilbert.
