Final rehearsals for the living nativity scene at Notre-Dame des Victoires

From Greccio to Lupinu, the symbolism remains unchanged
The tradition of the living nativity scene is attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi who first had the idea in the 13th century. to involve the villagers of Greccio in experiencing this biblical episode, by embodying the characters from the nativity scene.

In the church, after the roles have been distributed, the rehearsal continues. It is Mary who, at the age of 9, will play Mary, mother of Jesus. As for Cerena, intimidated, she participates for the first time in this performance “caboutI stay in my corner a little, my grandpa always tells me that I have to overcome my fears'” she slips. Investing in such a significant role also contributes to surpassing oneself, so parents and catechists encourage children in this sense. Carole, Lola's mother comments on this strong moment of spirituality “when I see the children performing this scene it floods me with joy, and it is also a source of pride because not all children have the chance to participate, it is a grace of God. For children, following catechism and going to mass means understanding the importance of good over evil.”

It's a happy team that continues the rehearsal, Pascal orchestrates the staging while Sister Kasia manages the soundtrack. The only ones remaining on the benches, the catechists give some instructions. At the altar, which has become the stage where the performance will take place, angels pass and wave branches to announce the good news.
Several boys arrive in cohorts, they are the shepherds, followed by the Three Wise Men dressed in their finest attire and hoisting high the presents offered to the newborn. The first repetition evolves perfectly as if a divine breath reigned in the atmosphere.

The living nativity scene is a tradition rich in meaning that continues to touch hearts and recalls the beauty of the birth of Christ and his universal values of sharing and love. From Greccio to Lupinu, even if contemporary elements such as the soundtrack have been added, the symbolism of peace remains unchanged, echoing the spirit of Christmas
