Definitely not a fan of traveling to Thaon, Amiens SC fell in the Grand Est (2-1) by not living up to the event. Discover our tops and flops after this hasty elimination in the French Cup.
The best
Kandil, the only one to bring danger
In an Amiens team which struggled to be truly dangerous, Nordine Kandil positioned as number 10 was very clearly the most dangerous Amiens player in the match. Although the pitch was not suitable for the Picard playmaker to show the extent of his qualities in this match, the midfielder still managed to create danger through dribbling but also strikes as in the 18th. minute when his shot hit the crossbar. He could also have become a decisive passer in the 37th minute if Louis Mafouta had completed his one-on-one against the Thaon goalkeeper. In short, he was the most dangerous Amiens player throughout the match.
The flops
Amiens SC fell into the Thaon trap
For the third consecutive clash against this Thaon team in the Coupe de France, this one was not the happiest. Indeed, while we could have hoped for a qualification against a resident of National 3, the Amiens once again suffered a new disappointment. Much less deserving and sharp than the Thaonnais, the Amiens were logically eliminated. Although the terrain was quite difficult, Omar Daf's men still did not provide sufficient ingredients to overcome this Vosges team.
While they were leading the score through Osaze Urhoghide from a corner, the Picards were first caught up in the score barely a minute after the start of the second half due to a handball fault. 'Alexis Sauvage, the two teams having returned with different ambitions, then, without ever having managed to show clear domination, the Amiens conceded the 2-1 goal at the end of the match (84′) following from a raise error by Louis Mafouta. It was once again a disappointment with this elimination caused by two individual errors.
Mafouta too little in sight
In this part, Louis Mafouta had great difficulty weighing on the opposing defense. With very few balls touched in the build-up to the game, the Amiens striker was seen too little and when he was, it never allowed the game to move forward, losing too many balls. On the offensive side, he missed numerous opportunities, such as Adem Karchi's cross in the 3rd minute or a one-on-one against the goalkeeper in the 37th minute. Besides offensively, number 9 Picard also weighed down his team from a defensive point of view since it was he who cleared the ball on a Thaon player who subsequently caused the 2-1 goal in favor of the Vosges, synonymous with elimination for Amiens SC. One thing is certain, this Coupe de France match did not help the Central African international to get back on track, he who remains in eight matches without the slightest goal scored.
Disappointing wild
Aligned as usual in the Coupe de France and while he had been impeccable until now, Alexis Sauvage this time has a share of responsibility in this elimination from Amiens. Faulty in the Thaon equalizer at the very start of the second half, the second Amiens goalkeeper in fact made a hand mistake on a shot which might have seemed easy to catch but which the Picard goalkeeper pushed back, unluckily, on an opponent, which caused the Vosges to return to the score. Furthermore, he had not been completely reassuring throughout the match with his completely missed clearance in the 23rd, which fortunately had no consequences. Although we cannot blame him for the opponent's second goal, it is still partly his responsibility if the ES Thaon players came back into the match.
