What a return Biathlon World Cup pour Tarjei Boe !
Not selected for sprinting and chasingAnnecy – Le Grand Bornandthe Norwegian won the mass start this Sunday, December 22.
The eldest of the Boe siblings played his shot perfectly by ensuring a superb 19/20 against the targets to win in 37 min 20 s 8. A consecration for him, and for his team.
The Norwegians had control of the race during the 15 km effort. Before the second prone shot, they occupied the first five places in the ranking. This was still the case before the first standing shot and they were still four in the lead before the final standing shot of the day. Despite this domination, a German took second place: Danilo Riethmueller.
He made a mistake on his second prone shot and was then impeccable to achieve the first individual podium of his career in the Biathlon World Cup. The 25-year-old biathlete finished 4 seconds behind Tarjei Boe and confirmed that he likes the mass start after his 4th place in Kontiolahti at the beginning of December.
Johannes Thingnes Boe made the difference on the skis to complete the top 3 despite a 17/20 against the targets. The leader of the general classification of the World Cup accompanies his big brother on this podium and that was enough for his happiness in the finish area.
All other bouquets from the flower ceremony will go to Norway because Sturla Holm Laegreid, Martin Uldal et Vebjoern Soerum follow in the ranking. Only one Frenchman ranked in the top 10 of this race which began with an incredible tifo in the stands of Annecy – Le Grand Bornand: Fabien Claude. He ranked 9th at 37 seconds after a superb comeback.
He was 27th out of 30 participants after a 3/5 during the first prone shot. He then came back superbly, making only one mistake on the second standing shot. THE Blues generally suffered against the targets and that is whyEric Perrot (11th at 53.9 s), Émilien Jacquelin (16th at 1:36:6) or Quentin Fillon Maillet (18th at 1 min 40 s 1) failed to play up front.
