Union Saint-Jean – Monaco in the Coupe de : media, mental preparation and first visit… How did the players prepare?

the essential
For three weeks, players and staff have done everything they can to approach this meeting as best as possible. Like pros.

There is no doubt that when all this is over, Valentin Gayraud will get a good night's sleep. Second employee of L'Union Saint-Jean since this year, the young man has been responsible for managing all the (very) numerous media requests that have arrived since the draw for the 32nd final, The Team has The Dispatch via the BBC (yes yes). “We made sure that each person in the group had their own little moment, with an article, a video…” explains Grégory Sorroche, coach of a team who lives in the spotlight, but who knows that he you have to “know how to put things into perspective” and protect yourself otherwise you will “get carried away by the fervor”.

On the sporting aspect, the coach and his staff thought a lot about the best method to approach the historic meeting against AS Monaco. Although they have not changed their training rhythm (three per week), the players have been offered mental preparation workshops to prepare for a match which will be played in front of more than 15,000 people. And because Grégory Sorroche knows that if his players can surpass the Monegasques, it will be above all on the psychological aspect, much more than technical and physical.

After hesitating to organize a green break with the entire group, the technical staff finally ruled out this option. Yesterday morning, however, they met at the Stadium to visit the facilities, notably the pitch and the locker rooms, usually used by TFC players, so as not to discover them on the day of the match and be too impressed. This Sunday morning, all the players and staff gathered for a snack, before heading to the Stadium and playing the most important match of their lives.
