After the qualification of FC Nantes (4-0) for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France at the expense of Drancy, Antoine Kombouaré spoke of the very complicated week he has just experienced. There was indeed talk of one last dance for him on the Canaries bench before giving up his place to another coach, Sergio Conceiçao and Habib Beye having been very close to being recruited. The Kanak swore not to worry, that he understood that his future was dotted because of the poor results but that he was going to continue as if nothing had happened, with the desire to win the maintenance. This Sunday, Le Parisien, however, makes some revelations behind the scenes of the Maison Jaune.
Internal changes imposed by management
Already, the Nantes management will impose changes internally, even if we do not know the nature of these. Le Parisien simply explains that Antoine Kombouaré “accepted these adjustments”. If the leaders finally decided to continue with him, it is mainly because they did not notice a divide between him and his group. However, they still contacted other coaches, including Habib Beye, but not Sergio Conceiçao! This track would have “never been dug”, according to the regional daily. The Portuguese, who is coming out of a very successful seven-year term at FC Porto, is “looking for a very high-level European club” and he did not see himself “returning to the Beaujoire bench”. He had also failed at OM this summer for these same reasons. If playing at the top of the L1 table didn't excite him, getting out of the trap of maintaining it was even less exciting for him…
