The day after the car-ramming attack which left at least five dead and more than 200 injured in Germany, the security system was reinforced at the Strasbourg Christmas market, in Bas-Rhin, on Saturday December 21. These measures reassure visitors and traders.
Security agents controlled visitors to the Christmas market in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), Saturday December 21. Nearly 100,000 people pass through this place every day. This system, which has been in place since the opening of the Christmas market, has been strengthened. “Since this morning, we have been much more vigilant about backpacks, handbags, jackets”explains Benoît Houde, security agent.
These extra precautions were taken the day after the car-ramming attack in Germany. Around the Christmas market, barriers have been installed on the road to prevent vehicles from passing through. Members of the police are increasing their vigilance and carrying out patrols. These measures reassure traders. The security system is all the more important as Strasbourg has already experienced an attack in 2018, leaving 5 dead and around ten injured.
