The elected officials of Saint-Pierre-d'Irube had the merit of ending the day of Wednesday, December 18 with three consecutive hours of meetings. A first informative meeting preceded the last municipal council of the year 2024.
The most consistent subject was the debate on the budgetary guidelines for 2025, a mandatory exercise establishing the state of municipal finances and setting future investment prospects. The mayor, Alain Iriart, announced that two major structuring projects will be completed next fall: the start of the school year in September will allow the students and staff of Basté-Quiéta to evolve in a completely renovated school. Very close to there, and at the same time, the Lissague media library and its park will be revealed to the population.
Finances under control
In 2024, the municipality managed to generate considerable revenue which will replenish the investments section. 1.5 million euros will be immediately injected into the financing of the aforementioned projects, but also into two other structuring projects, which will be sections 2 and 3 of the cycle path, as well as the construction of the future Alminoritz district, which will accommodate housing promoting great social diversity as well as the future intercommunal swimming pool.
Since 2008, the financial position of the municipality has made it possible to meet significant expenses without having to resort to borrowing.
The mayor proposed including a new budget line providing for financial participation in the reconstruction effort on the island of Mayotte.
EPZ in question
Another debate arose when expressing the municipality's opinion on the Low Emission Zone (ZFE) project for the Bayon metropolitan area. Elected officials have raised reservations about this system, which is considered incomplete and does not come into force on the coastal motorway, which concentrates the vast majority of polluting vehicles.
At the end of the session, the decision was expressed to condemn and challenge public opinion on the threat of a 30% reduction in the time of the local Basque-language newspaper of France 3 Euskal Herri.
