If you want to go to the city center of Toulouse by car, this Saturday, December 21, 2024, arm yourself with patience, traffic jams are on the agenda !
Traffic jams on every street corner
This was to be expected this Saturday, between race for Christmas presents which is engaged for some, the activities planned in the city center and rainit is difficult to travel by car, as well as on foot. Around 2 p.m. in the streets of the Rose City, the traffic was blocked. To the exit from the Victor Hugo car park, around Place Wilson and in all the surrounding streets of the areacars are queuing. There are even traffic jams inside the multi-storey car park of the famous covered market!
A situation that was to be expected
For Johnny Dunal, in charge of events and civil security at the town hall, this situation was predictable and perfectly understandable. “The last weekend before Christmas is always the most commercially intensive. To this are added the bad weatherwhich often dissuades people from opting for public transport. Additionally, there is the question of Christmas gifts: many people do not want to carry their packages on public transport and prefer to use their car,” he explains.
Disrupted traffic which is therefore normal for Toulouse, especially as parking and streets around the Capitol are closed to traffic.
Traffic jams… but good news
The traffic jams will no doubt displease many Toulouse residents who come for a walk in the city center today, but this is, in a way, good news. “If so many people come to town, it’s because our hypercenter is attractive . We count today more than a million visitors on all of the Christmas marketsof the city while we usually reach this figure at the end of the month,” adds Jonnhy Dunal.
Traffic jams which therefore seem to indicate attractiveness for the pink city.
Traffic that is unlikely to improve
Despite this, the Toulouse traffic is not expected to improve before the end of the day . Between the leaving the stores, the rainwhich will not stop falling and the parades departing from Les Carmes, Place Saint-Etienne and Victor Hugo between 6 and 7 p.m., which will converge towards La Daurade, Toulouse risk being very crowded all day.
