An inmate at -Annoeullin prison filed a complaint for “intentional violence” and claims to have been attacked by eight guards. He was also allegedly the victim of a racist insult.

A judicial investigation was opened after the complaint of an inmate at Lille-Annoeullin prison claiming to have been attacked by guards, AFP learned from the International Prison Observatory (OIP) and the interregional directorate of penitentiary services (DISP) from Lille.

According to a press release from the French section of the OIP, published on Friday December 20, the detainee filed a complaint for “intentional violence by a person holding public authority” after violence which allegedly took place on December 4 in the search room. .

The DISP told AFP on Saturday that the Lille public prosecutor's office had opened an investigation into this matter. The prosecution did not immediately respond to requests from AFP.

Eight supervisors accused

The detainee claims to have been “beaten” by eight guards. He mentions “arm locks”, a “kick” in the face and “punches in the back and neck”. He would also have been the subject of a racist insult, according to the OIP.

The caregivers who received him at the health unit on December 5 and 6 noted several injuries. “A wound above the left arch”, multiple “bruises”, a “wound and bruise on the left leg over 10 cm”, and a “muscle tear of the left adductor, with significant hematoma and swelling,” detailed the OIP.

According to the plaintiff's lawyer, Me Soulifa Badaoui, this attack occurred after returning from a hearing at the Lille judicial court, where his client was sentenced to an additional sentence of six months of home detention under electronic surveillance for violence. verbal and physical attacks against a supervisor.

The judge's decision “must not have pleased the supervisor involved and his colleagues”, supposed the lawyer, quoted in the OIP press release.
