By directly connecting the Coop district to the Starcoop tram station, a level crossing now saves residents from making a major detour. Open since December 20, it represents a big step forward for a sector that continues to grow.
« I want to finally say it! ». Alain Jund does not hide his relief at the opening, on December 20, of the level crossing on the railway line for pedestrians and cyclistsnear rue de la Coopérative, near the Kaléidoscoop.
Why is it important? Because residents of the Coop district can now quickly connect to the Starcoop tram station, while cyclists have a direct connection with the cycle path, to go to Kehl on one side and to the center of Strasbourg on the other. A real change, whereas until now, they had to make a long detour of around ten minutes on foot via rue du Port-du-Rhin and rue du Péage.
A project awaited for a while for a growing neighborhood
A small revolution that took a long time to come. Since 2009, the Eurometropolis has had the idea of a tram to Kehl, which will finally arrive in 2017. At that time, the development of Deux-Rives began, a new part of town emerging from the ground. But it was only 6 years later that the Starcoop tram station officially opened, “ as before there were neither homes nor activities. »
Now, more than 500 residents populate the neighborhood, and there will soon be more than 1,000. At the same time, around 500 employees work in the sector, which expects 1,500 within 3/4 years. A bustling sector of activity, with more than 80 structures, such as Kaleidscoop, the Urban Planning Agency, Espace Equality and T'Rêve, and which will soon even welcome a park. A whole ecosystem which therefore needed to have a direct connection with the tram, so as to no longer feel separated from the city.
Connecting Deux-Rives to Strasbourg
But everyone had to be very patient. The cause is a certain reluctance on the part of the State, which has not opened a level crossing at the national level for at least 10 years for security reasons.. But on March 27, after more than six months, the prefecture gave the green light. The work then lasted all summer.
It's really a piece of town that is finally connected to Strasbourg.
The level crossing on rue de la Coopérative has no footbridge or tunnel, and will only see a few freight trains pass per day, at very low speed. To ensure the safety of passers-by, it has a red light with an automatic barrier. But for Alain Jund, the most important thing is this: “ For us, what is important is that the entire Coop and Deux-Rives sector is also part of the city. »
