Philippe and Mathilde from Belgium visit a Brussels reception center for Christmas

Thursday, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were out in Brussels. The royal couple honored a Christmas visit to a residential center caring for women in financial difficulty or who are homeless. A warm meeting marked by good humor, as evidenced by the photos taken during the visit.

As soon as she arrived, Queen Mathilde was given a bouquet of flowers before speaking, alongside her husband, with the volunteers. As they walked through a room, the couple was charmed by the presence of a choir led by an accordionist! A musical interlude that the queen spent with a child from the center comfortably seated on her lap.

Continuing the exchanges, the couple learned about the initiatives of the center, which welcomes around thirty women in precarious situations and their children throughout the year. The queen and king were invited to listen to these life stories to better understand the difficulties of their compatriots. Everyone then gathered around a large table to share a friendly lunch.

Queen Mathilde in the kitchen

But for the Queen of the Belgians, the day was far from over since another meeting was on her agenda. Mathilde went to the Restos du coeur de Saint-Gilles. The one who is used to getting her hands dirty during her outings has not deviated from her habits. With Charlotte on her head and an apron tied around her waist, the mother of Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eléonore slipped into the kitchen to prepare the meal. On the menu: roast lamb ribs with rosemary, green beans with onions, grilled tomatoes and gratin dauphinois.

His Majesty's mission: season the tomatoes. A task that she carried out meticulously before the dish was put in the oven… before participating in the room service! Sitting behind the counter, Mathilde served the beneficiaries, while sharing a few words with each. “Thank you to those who work during this festive period, and outside, to help those who need it,” thanked the palace through a message shared on social networks.
