A renovated shared space for pedestrians and cyclists on Avenue de l’Infanterie de Marine in

It's the end of the construction site on Avenue de l'Infanterie de Marine. After around three months of work and monopolization of the main sidewalk south of , the new shared space for gentle modes of transport (walking, cycling, scootering, etc.) was completed a few days ago.

“The goal was first to rehabilitate the cycle path, which was really degraded”recalls Albert Tanguy, municipal councilor responsible for traffic. In the end, the workers even did a little more than that.

A development over 500m

The entire shared space starting from the Bonaparte roundabout and ending at the entrance to Port Marchand (opposite the Total station) has been redeveloped, secured, and revegetated. “The sidewalk was very damaged. So we resurfaced the portion with light coating. In total, that’s 500m of one-way construction”explains Luc de Saint-Sernin, deputy mayor in charge of roads.

The roots of the trees, which greatly hindered the many daily users of the cycle lane, were thus able to be “scratched” (without endangering the species) to smooth the path.

The parking spaces located throughout have been taken over, and five new ones have been created. To this, we add the planting of around ten leafy trees, the revegetation of 380m2 of spaces, and the establishment of a separation between pedestrian path and parking “more in tune with the times”.

The final finishes (paintings and panels) were to be completed this weekend. In total, the cost of the project amounts to 450,000 euros.
