To green the city, the collective “Jardin Pirates” illegally plants zucchini and other plum plums in urban spaces. “Libé” was with one of its members, on Wednesday December 18 at nightfall, around twenty shrubs in the trailer.

He calls himself the “mud pirate.” However, he has neither a black eye patch nor dirt on his hands. His large green plastic boots already on his feet and his empty trailer attached to his battered 206 are the only clues that allow us to identify him under the gray sky of Nancy (Meurthe-et-). With a smile on his lips, the 29-year-old young man, a former market gardener, explains that “everything is ready”. He revs the engine of this car which is not his. But “No problem”, his father is aware of the action he intends to take.

Loïc Schneider takes the road to Saint-Boingt, a small village located about thirty minutes away. His mission for the day, carried out on behalf of the “Jardin Pirates” collective of which he has been a member since its creation in 2022: to pick up around twenty young plum trees from a friendly farmer, then replant them illegally in certain districts of Nancy. All at nightfall, “to avoid being too visible and being spotted by city officials.”

The group, made up of members “very active” and about fifteen people who “gravitate around”is not his first illegal plantation.
